Outdated Dress Policy?

I wanted to get some opinions about a problem I have at work. I like my job, don't get me wrong, as much as anyone can like working in retail, but each summer I face a very uncomfortable situation.

I work in a wholesale club. Anyone who knows me knows I have many tattoos, on both of my arms and one of my legs. My store carries a dress policy that restricts tattoos more than a inch in diameter. The result? I must wear long sleeve shirts and full length pants all summer long in the *very* poorly air conditioned warehouse. A warehouse which allows shorts and t-shirts because of the laxed dress policy. Is that a bit of an oxymoron?

I have thought of writing a letter to upper management, not that I believe it will help, but to make my opinion known. For a long time, I didn't feel too bad about the tattoo policy. Afterall, a lot of places still restrict tattoos on employees, so its not a strange policy. But after all the years of working there, and the countless customers who have been shocked that I must cover myself up, I've come to think that the policy may be outdated.

In society today, tattoos have come into mainstream media, with programs on TV and more and more people getting body art. Yes, it may be a bit of a fad, but that just shows it's incresed acceptability. I think that some places, most obviously retail businesses that have a less "professional" necessity (if you get my meaning), should rethink the practicality of restricting tattoos. These are places that hire a lot of young employees, who are more likely to be thinking of body art, or who already have some.

I'm just looking for your opinions on this subject. Am I asking too much? Or are the companies we work for asking too much of us?

Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Post this in your Journal to support Gay Rights!

I try not to get emo in this journal, and in the few entries I have here, I've done quite well on that front, but this time, I must get a bit emo. So, the following is very self-pitying emo. For, I have been quite ill, both in the tummy and in the head, and it has made me quite sad.

I have had an strange - and as yet barely diagnosed - stomach ailment over the past few months that has slowly been aggravating me to distraction. I have missed an inordinate amount of work time, and the frustration has been mounting, and I only just got put on a new medication to try and curb it (now that I've gained 13 lbs back from what I lost!). But, that is not the end.

As it finally seemed to be getting better, my meds for my depression started to fail. So I had to leave work early one day when I couldn't control myself, and it started a spiral. I went into express care (like a low budget ER), to get an increase in my dosage, and *that* began a whole new problem...

It may sound like I'm exggerating, and maybe I am since I have no frame of reference for this sort of thing, but the last several days have been sheer torture. I was so restless and unable to function normally that I had to take a leave from work. I quit my part time job all together, and I'm out of the regular job until I can get under control. Right now, I've spent the past 4 days sleeping, followed by a zombified trudge around the house for about 3 hours, then sleeping some more, then getting up and being unable to stay in one place for more than a few minutes before the restlessness and complete discomfort drives me elsewhere.

But there's nowhere to go! I feel like I'm going mad, because I'm in so much...discomfort (it really i the best word) that I can't watch a single TV program, or read e-mail, or play a game or anything. It's driving my insane. I had a bit of a reprive Sunday, and I hope that it's just my new meds playing havoc, and that the worst is almost over. I see the doctor today, followed by going to work to arrange a comeback date.

I just had to get that out. I don't know witch ailment started what, or what either has to do with the other, but I just want things back to normal again before I go crazy. *sigh*

There, end of emo...

Werewolves: bad movies and weird dreams

    <lj:music>Growing Up Black Leopard - Animal Planet</lj:music>

First, we start with my strange dream this morning. Anyone who knows me probably knows at least a little of my unhealthy obsession with WOD (White Wolf's World of Darkness [TM]). I dreamt I was a Black Fury ahroun, stalking about a mall/Wal*Mart locale, checking for Wyrm taint and whatnot. I had scoped out the office section of the department store, heard something about a cover-up of some environmental situation the company was involved in, and saw a large room where there were tours of the company's accomplishments available...with proper appointments (gotta hide anything bad, after all!).

I was planning on using a gift to hide myself in shadow, so I could walk right in front of people and they'd never see me as long as I wasn't in full light or didn't run into anyone physically. Something else in the dream interupted before I got to do any ass-kicking though. *sigh* Maybe next time.

Anyway, it reminded me that I just saw yet another *horrendously* bad werewolf film.

Called "The Feeding," this canidate for 'Sci-Fi Movie Original' was about a group of seven young campers and two incompetent park rangers in the way of a mutant, bipedal shrew on steroids.

Basically, two hunters get killed by said PMS megarodentia, rangers come in to speculate and clear out campers and campers get high and have sex. They all meet up together under the darkness of a set of headlights, and zany hyjinks ensue.

So, was this really a wereshrew? Well, of course, the movie said it was a werewolf, and it clearly was the intent, but the best example of what it *actually* looked like was...well, if you're an MST3K fan, and have see "Attack of the Killer Shrews," Our buddy looked just like one of those killer shrews, only standing upright, with mange. His rodent-like, slimey face was the towering achievment of this movie. Well, that and the constant battering of the token black guy.

Yipee to me for my constant choices of 20XX-era b-films that make movies such as Equinox, Skydivers and Radar Secret Service look like gems of cinema in comparison. Ugh.

Despite its fearsome appearance, The Devil is a card of weakness. It is one of the few cards in the Tarot deck that almost always has negative connotations when it occurs in a reading. When the Devil appears in a Tarot spread it can represent lack of achievement through negative thoughts. It suggests character flaws such as greed, bitterness and authoritarianism. All these things can ultimately destroy a person. The rest of the Tarot spread will determine whether or not the querent will overcome their problems or continue blindly on.

XV: The Devil

75%

I -
My Childhood Weirdness, part 1

For my first post to my new, Furry lj, I copied a post from my non-furry personal lj.

(I use that one for the drama/emo and extensive memes, and I hope to keep this one relatively free of that.)

This seemed appropriate...

I'm starting a little series on my weird, imaginative exploits, growing up as an introverted, only child with no friends and a truly whacked out brain. I remember my older cousin, who I occasionally played video games with, would coment that SEGA should make a game called "Alex Kidd in Mary's World." That's how twisted I was.

And if you get that reference, you're an old-school gamer too, huh? ;)

Anyway, for anyone who's interested...

This time, I'll tell you about my crazy video game ideas. I used to draw endlessly growing up. If I wasn't reading or playing outside, I was drawing on those crappy old 'math paper' sketch pads. Unfortunately, I don't have the actual drawings for the following available, but I do remember a lot of the aspects of this idea.

I liked side scrolling shooters, like the Gradius or R-Type series, so I thought *why not a side-scroller with flying snakes?* Now hold on, just hear me out...heh. There were five (I think) snakes that I'd created, and you could choose one at the beginning of each level to fight through the stage with. Each one looked a little different, and had different abilities. The ones I remember are:

Spike - he was large, the group leader, with a big spike on his head. I think he had actual wings, and he could shoot the spike out at enemies. I guess a new one grew immediately. Normal speed. His special attack probably involved some kind of energy ray shooting from the spike.

Razor - his back was lined all the way down with blades, and he basically charged into enemies with them. His special involved him rolling into a circle and spinning like a saw blade. Fast speed.

There was one who was fast and shot lightning bolts from his forked tongue. He had wings too.

I don't remember the other two, but I'm betting one was named "Blade." They were fighting in the generic alien corridors of the Gradius games, probably to save a female snake who was dating Spike. It was really like a gang out to retrieve their kiddnapped girl.

But with flying snakes.

I'm eager to know if anyone else has some amusing or strange tales of things they did when they were kids. And, I want to know if anyone wants to hear more of my 'tales of weirdness.' Granted, it's my LJ, and I'll post them anyway...hee hee. Just curious as to whether anyone will read them.
